The Joburg Super Kings earned an exciting 16 run win over the Durban Super Giants on January 11 in Game 2 of the 2023 SA20 in Kingsmead, Durban. Exciting prospect Donavon Ferreira made a big impression going unbeaten 82 of 40 to help the Super Kings reach a total of 190/6. In the chase, the Supergiants started well with captain Quinton de Kock going for 78 runs from 52 balls but limited to just 174/5.

Faf du Plessis won the toss for Super Kings and opted to bat first, but his decision backfired when the team lost openers Janneman Malan and Reeza Hendricks early on. Star Keshav Maharaj caught and toppled Reese while Dwayne Pretorius sent Malan off the board with just eight runs.

Spinner Prenelan Subrayen then took two big wickets, eliminating Kyle Verreynee and Lewis Gregory in sixth and leaving the Super Giants battling at 27/4. But du Plessis (39 of 33) and Donovan created a crucial 72-goal partnership for the fifth goal to get their side back in the game.

After recovering, Ferreira dominated the last six overs while Romario Shepherd also scored 40 of 19 to help the Super Kings go 190/6 in 20 overs. Subrien claimed two wickets while Maharaj proved to be the most frugal bowler for the Super Giants at 1/23.

Durban started his innings with opener de Kock and Kyle Myers, who put up a brilliant partnership for 98 runs in just 11 overs. However, Aaron Fangiso gave the Super Kings the opening they needed with a wicket from Myers. Ferreira then eliminated the dangerous de Kock in the 14th minute to change the dynamics of the game. Myers scored 39/30 while de Kock scored 78/52.

The Supergiants struggled for big hits in dead overs and were limited to 174/5, with Alzari Joseph taking big wickets from Heinrich Klaasen and Dwayne Pretorius in the last three overs. Ferreira won the Man of the Match award for his battering exploits and an impressive 1/28 spell on the ball for the Joburg Super Kings.
